Brian Irving

 

Brian Irving is a Bunjalung man from Grafton, who now resides in Guyra.Brian is a self taught artist who has been painting all his life. Only in the last twelve years has Brian taken art seriously. Brian’s artistic talent is inspired by artists like: Albert Namatjira, Norman Lindsay and Clifford Possum.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Dennis Kennedy

 

Dennis Kennedy was born in Guyra, and after travelling for two and a half years moved to Armidale. Dennis had an exhibition called “Together, Together” at the cultural centre in February 2006 which was quite successful. Dennis’ goals for the future include having more exhibitions, opening his own business and passing his skills on to the youth.

 

                                                               

 

                                                                      Chris Luckett

 

Chris Luckett (Numbungou) is an artist from the Northern Territory. His paintings have a very spiritual feeling to them, with the use of dots, crosshatching and x-ray art techniques. These skills were passed onto Chris by his elders, along with his own natural talent.

 

 

 

 

 

                                                                       Rod McPherson

 

Rod McPherson is a non-indigenous artist who was born in Redfern, and raised by his great grandmother, who was born at Hillgrove in the New England. Rod’s exhibition (RECONART) meaning reconciliation art, came about by being taught the techniques of Aboriginal art by his close friends and support from the local community. Rod also took out 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize at the Armidale Show art competition.

 

 

 

Nathan Moran

 

 Nathan was born and completed his primary school education in Wollongong. His family then moved to Albury where he completed his secondary schooling. After completing his education, Nathan moved to Armidale where he has spent most of his adult life.

Nathan has been painting all his life and learnt that skill from his uncles. He does boomerang, canvas and didgeridoo painting using paint brushes, sticks and toothbrushes to create the spray effect. Nathan mainly paints traditional designs using earthy tones.     

 

 

 

 

Adam Spencer

 

Adam Spencer is a Kamilaroi man whose family roots are in Moree and Armidale. Adam uses many different media to produce his pieces, eg: woodcarving, printmaking, ochres and ink. Adam gets his inspiration from other artists like: Albert Namatjira and Ainslie Roberts.

Adam is currently working as a program Co-ordinator at the Cultural Centre where he runs a holiday cultural activity program for the aboriginal children of the Armidale region, and Cultural Workshops where the non-indigenous community get a chance to learn about Aboriginal culture.

 

 

 

 

 

Debbie Walford

 

Debra Walford is a local artist who taught herself to paint. Drawing inspiration from the art showcased at the cultural centre, Deb has gone from a shy artist to an artist in demand around the region. Deb’s first exhibition was a group exhibition was with women artists from Tamworth entitled (Agidir) an Aniwan word meaning “Women at work” where her career as an artist was given a huge boost with numerous sales.
